Wearing whatever
Whatever’s appropriate
For whatever
Waterproof mascara
And a plastic mac
High heels help me measure up
I’ll be nearly as tall as you
I know the taste of salt
From my blood or tears
I know the feel of lonely
Like new pyjamas
From the one night only
I’m not feeling myself but…
Whatever I brought
I what I wear
It’s what I am
For today
We are the ladies
As butch as can be
Tougher girls than boys ever will be
Harder nuts to crack
And lacking nutrition
How will we grow up and out of this?
I get so angry at you
It’s all just for me
Fireworks for me
Fire works for me.
I play blame so hard
That you won’t see
See into me.
Seduction of lipstick
Draws your eyes so you won’t see into mine
Pretty blue around the lid
And you’re not seeing my irises change colour and dilate
We are The Ladies
We play it hard
Germ-free
Infertile
Hairless
Fatless
Muscle-less
Powerless.

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

A record so nice, I bought it twice. I haven't stopped listening to "Book Of Curses" digitally since it came out in November. So when Bandcamp Friday came around and I saw a few copies of the limited edition were left, it was time to buy it physically. A perfect, contemporary encapsulation of where the four members came from before, and where they'll take music going forward. Here's to hoping they make it to the States when this whole pandemic thing gets sorted out. Ape Mummy
This Seattle 3-piece blast out their frisky punk LP via Kill Rock Stars. You might want to avoid their couch, though. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 16, 2015
This Baltimore group rough up post-punk with dark post-hardcore riffs and chaotic choruses, never losing a fine-tuned sense of melody. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 13, 2024

What a fantastic find. Throws all of my love for Wire, Minutemen, The Waitresses, and every other herky-jerky art-punk band, into a blender and comes out better than a kale smoothie. But beyond the nostalgia factor, these are sharp songwriters and arrangements. Excited to see them live tomorrow night! Ragle Gumm
