I slow down when I hit tarmac
I’ll slow down further
When I hit the city.
And the city comes up fast
The city comes up too fast
And the city is full and spewing
To full, too fast, too vast,
Here is full of grime and shit
And this contract between time and money,
Ugly money, used as a tool
As the only meaning.
The way the tool is used,
To block, to blow,
Civilisation, so uncivilized
Pushing and blurring to grey
Quality of life immeasurable
Caught in moments, not numbers
In the city we are bereft
Of feeling or thought, fragmented,
Truncated, isolated, broken,
Self-absorbed, ah ah only me
The whole word united in one action: Transaction
A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
A record so nice, I bought it twice. I haven't stopped listening to "Book Of Curses" digitally since it came out in November. So when Bandcamp Friday came around and I saw a few copies of the limited edition were left, it was time to buy it physically. A perfect, contemporary encapsulation of where the four members came from before, and where they'll take music going forward. Here's to hoping they make it to the States when this whole pandemic thing gets sorted out. Ape Mummy
This Seattle 3-piece blast out their frisky punk LP via Kill Rock Stars. You might want to avoid their couch, though. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 16, 2015
This Baltimore group rough up post-punk with dark post-hardcore riffs and chaotic choruses, never losing a fine-tuned sense of melody. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 13, 2024
